USA Cricket Announces Inaugural North American Cup

April 12, 2025

USA Cricket is delighted to announce the inaugural North American Cup, a historic new tournament set to take place in the Cayman Islands from April 19 to 27, 2025. The competition will feature five national teams: the United States, Canada, Bermuda, Bahamas, and the host nation, Cayman Islands.

This limited-overs tournament will be played in the T20 format and teams will compete in a group stage, followed by playoffs to determine the champion. The format is designed to deliver fast-paced, high-energy cricket that showcases emerging talent from across North America and the Caribbean.

The North American Cup is a collaborative effort among the cricket boards in the region to boost their international exposure, strengthen regional ties, and offer more competitive match experience to associate nations. With the sport continuing to grow in new markets, the tournament is expected to be the first of many future cricket events in the region.

“As cricket takes its rightful place on the Olympic stage, we are proud to launch the ‘North America Championship’ a milestone moment for the sport in our region. This Championship marks a vital stepping stone in strengthening cricket across the Americas, both competitively and commercially,” said Venu Pisike, USA Cricket Chairman. “I extend my sincere thanks to all the Member Boards who came together with a shared vision to make this possible. A special congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the Cayman Islands for hosting this historic inaugural edition.”

“It is with immense Cayman pride that we welcome all the teams participating in the Inaugural North America’s T20 Championship. This tournament, which originated from discussions at last year’s annual ICC Conference in Sri Lanka, marks a historic moment for the Cayman Islands. We are honored that Cayman Cricket will be hosting this prestigious event for two consecutive years, and we see it as a significant opportunity for our players to gauge and elevate their performance levels,” said Courtney Myles, Cayman Cricket President.

“In addition, this tournament will serve as a catalyst for sports tourism by strengthening communications among the tourism departments of all participating countries. We are excited to leverage this event to promote Cayman’s vibrant sporting culture and our commitment to enhancing international collaboration,” Myles added.

“The Bermuda Cricket Board wishes to acknowledge the efforts of the founding members of the North American Cricket Cup (NACC), to launch the inaugural series in Cayman at the Jimmy Powell Oval. The collaborative approach has brought the North American region closer together, combining the unique skill set of each founding member,” said Calvin Blankendal, Executive Director of the Bermuda Cricket Board. “The NACC will elevate the North American Region and offer our players, match officials, management, and fans the opportunity to showcase themselves on a global platform.”

“The Bahamas team is extremely excited to participate in the inaugural North America Cup. It gives our country much needed advertisement that cricket is played in the Bahamas, and exposes our players to better cricket by participating with the top ranked countries in the Americas region such as Canada and the USA. Our players are ready to show the world what we can do,” said Gregory Taylor of Bahamas Cricket.

“Cricket Canada is honored to take part in the inaugural North America Cricket Cup. We anticipate a competitive event with our neighboring teams as we endeavor to enhance the sport within our region. It is our hope that this tournament will raise awareness of cricket, expand our fan base, and inspire more youth to engage in the sport,” said Ingleton Liburd of Cricket Canada.

For North American Cricket fans, all matches will be able to stream on Willow TV.
