In separate statements, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) and International Cricket Council have tried to assure the stakeholders in relation to the upcoming T20 World Cup, in the backdrop of the West Indies board receiving a terror threat to the mega event.
As per a report on Cricbuzz, pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources, which include the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch IS-Khorasan (IS-K), have issued the aforementioned threat. “We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event,” ICC said in an official release.
“We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place,” the CWI observed in their release.
Meanwhile, as per a report in Daily Express, the Caribbean leaders, which include Keith Rowley, the current Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, are working with the concerned authorities to ensure the safety of all those who would be partaking in the event.
The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held between June 2 to 29, 2024. Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda and Trinidad and Tobago will host the matches in the West Indies. Florida, New York, and Texas are the venues selected to host the games in the United States of America. Currently, no specific threats have been reported with regard to stadiums in the USA.
