Pre-title favourites Team India didn’t perform as expected in Asia Cup 2022. Despite some positives such as Virat Kohli’s return to form, the struggle of some players has been a concern for the team management.
The BCCI has announced the squad for the next T20 World Cup starting on October 16 in Australia. Not many changes have been made to the Indian team that participated in the Asia Cup.
After recovering from injuries, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel returned to the team. Mohammed Shami returns as the standby option, with the batting order unchanged despite the absence of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja due to injury.

Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria expressed his thoughts on the Indian batting order, saying that India’s fate at the World Cup in Australia will be decided by how their top three perform with the bat. He added that Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul must find their best form else the results in the T20 World Cup 2022 will be the same as the Asia Cup.
Kaneria added that Kohli’s century against Afghanistan was definitely the most encouraging aspect of India’s Asia Cup campaign. Arshdeep Singh’s bowling has also been outstanding on many occasions.

“While Virat Kohli has returned to form, the likes of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul must score big runs. Otherwise, their campaign will be the same as it was at the Asia Cup,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.
Umran Malik, who played brilliantly in the Indian Premier League season, did not get a place. While Umran’s absence may not hurt India’s preparations, former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria said that given the surfaces in Australia, the bowler from Kashmir should be considered among the standby players.
“India could have kept Umran Malik as one of the standby players as the Indian batters would have got to practice against a bowler who can consistently bowl quick,” Kaneria added.

Umran, who made his T20I debut this year, is still considered a raw prospect who needs to improve his consistency before becoming an important member of the Indian team.
After losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage of the continental tournament, India failed to advance to the finals.
On October 24, the Men in Blue will begin their campaign against archrival Pakistan. Last year in Dubai, Babar Azam and co defeated the Men in Blue in the T20 World Cup.
