Rohit Sharma Will Play Under Hardik Pandya At Mumbai Indians, Feels AB de Villiers

Legendary South Africa National Cricket Team batsman AB de Villiers has opined that the India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma will be playing under the leadership of all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the upcoming seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ahead of the IPL 2024 retention day, the most-talked-about thing in Indian cricket is the possible trade of Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans (GT) to Mumbai Indians (MI). Notably, Hardik Pandya came into the limelight following his stunning performances for MI in the IPL, but he was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Hardik Pandya went on to join the newcomers Gujarat Titans (GT) after getting released by Mumbai Indians (MI) and in his inaugural season as skipper, he led GT to the title victory. Under his leadership, GT did well in their second as well and finished as the runners-up. Meanwhile, according to the latest reports, Hardik Pandya is set to rejoin Mumbai Indians (MI) in all cash trade.

Rohit Sharma is going to let Hardik Pandya captain – AB de Villiers

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, AB de Villiers stated that Rohit Sharma might allow Hardik to lead Mumbai Indians (MI) to lessen his burden. He said:

“I have a funny feeling Rohit is going to let him (Hardik) captain. Rohit carries a lot of pressure of captaining Team India. Maybe that is going to be the move.”

AB de Villiers also said that the possible return of Hardik to Mumbai Indians (MI) is a piece of big news and he might have felt his time with Gujarat Titans (GT) was over following his successful two seasons. He said:

“It’s a big news for Mumbai Indians. He (Hardik) was a big player for Mumbai for many years. He loved playing at the Wankhede Stadium. He won the trophy with GT and then also went to the final (next season). He probably feels his time there is done.”

The IPL 2024 auction will be a mini-auction and it is scheduled to be held on December 19 in Dubai. The BCCI has set November 26 as the deadline for the franchises to announce the list of retained and released players.
