India have triumphed over England in the second semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Following the defeat, England’s skipper, Jos Buttler, provided insights into what went wrong and what could have been done better.

Jos Buttler reflects on England’s semifinal loss to India and future plans

During the post-match presentation, Buttler acknowledged India’s superior performance and said India fully earned their victory with an above-average score, making it difficult for their side to chase despite our aim to limit them to 145-150 runs on that pitch.

I believe India outperformed us and fully earned their victory. They definitely had an above-average score. I had hoped to limit them to around 145-150 runs on that pitch, but it was always going to be a difficult chase from there,” Buttler said.

Reflecting on England’s strategy, Buttler expressed some regret over their bowling decisions. “I thought we bowled without much luck during the power play, with a few close calls. In hindsight, I would have brought Moeen Ali into the game. So, yes, there are bits and pieces we could have done differently,”

Looking ahead, Buttler discussed the emotional impact of the loss and his immediate plans. “I’m just looking forward to taking a break from the game. Right now, feeling emotional after the loss, I don’t think I need to reflect too deeply on the tournament and the future. I’m simply looking forward to some distance from the game,”

India dominates the semifinals to secure a spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final.

In an exhilarating showdown, Rohit Sharma‘s commanding half-century, complemented by crucial contributions from Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, propelled India to a formidable total of 171 runs. Rohit’s aggressive batting set the tone, while Pandya’s all-round performance and Yadav’s strategic hitting fortified India’s innings.

On the bowling front, the Indian bowlers were relentless. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav led the charge, dismantling England’s batting lineup with surgical precision. Patel’s spin variations and Yadav’s crafty deliveries proved too much for England, who were bundled out for a mere 103 runs in just 16.4 overs. This comprehensive victory not only showcased India’s dominance in all facets of the game but also secured their place in the highly anticipated final of the 2024 edition.
