Fans on X reacted after India thumped Australia by 6 wickets in the 5th game of the ICC World Cup 2023. The game took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and it was low-scoring thriller but Virat Kohli and KL Rahul soaked in pressure and took the hosts home.
India were asked to field first and they had a sensational outing with the ball. Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood for his team as he removed Mitchell Marsh for a duck. After that, the hosts kept things really tight and didn’t allow Australia to free their arms.
Steve Smith (47) and David Warner (41) tried to provide a platform for other batters with their decent knocks but they couldn’t carry on. Marnus Labuschagne had the same fate as he perished after 27 runs. Indian bowlers were all over the opposition as they left them tottering at 140/7.
But their tail wagged as Pat Cummins (15) and Mitchell Starc (28) hit some lusty blows in the end that powered Australia to a total of 199 runs. Ravindra Jadeja bagged three wickets whereas Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets each while Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Siraj also picked one wicket each.
India had a dreadful start with the bat and were under real pressure. Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer bagged ducks and the hosts were tottering at 2/3. But after that, it was KL Rahul and Virat Kohli’s show as the duo soaked in all the pressure and took the game away from Australia.
Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97*) added 165 runs partnership and bailed India out of trouble. They batted extremely well and played some breathtaking shots. Although Kohli perished during the end, Rahul remained unbeaten and along with Hardik Pandya (11*) took his team home with six wickets in hand. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged three wickets.
