IND vs AFG: Not Virat Kohli’s Dropped Catch As Ravindra Jadeja Highlights Turning Point Of The Match Against Australia

Ravindra  Jadeja, on Sunday (October 8), starred with the ball as India beat Australia by six wickets to start their campaign in the 2023 ODI World Cup with a win.

On a tough batting track at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Australia started well with the bat despite losing Mitchell Marsh for a duck. David Warner and Steve Smith shared a 69-run stand for the second wicket to lay the foundation for a good total.

At 110 for 2, the five-time world champions were looking set to score a total well in excess of 200 runs before Ravindra Jadeja changed the course of the game by taking three wickets in quick succession. He first dismissed Steve Smith with a peach of delivery before getting rid of Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey to leave Australia reeling at 119 for 5 from 110 for 2.

The team from Down Under just could not recover from those three setbacks and were eventually all out for 199 runs. With the ball, Australia began well and had India reeling at 2 for 3. However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul shared a big stand of 165 runs to seal the game for the hosts. Kohli scored 65 while Rahul remained unbeaten on 97.

Ravindra Jadeja’s turning point of the match:

Speaking at the end of the game, Ravindra Jadeja talked about the turning point of the game. While many believe that Mitchell Marsh dropping Kohli when he was batting on only 12 runs was the turning point, Ravindra Jadeja believes otherwise.

The India allrounder opined that dismissing Steve Smith with the unplayable delivery was the turning point in the game. Ravindra Jadeja stated that it was not easy for the new batters to rotate strike on the tough pitch after the dismissal of a well-set Smith.

“I think that was the turning moment. When you get a wicket like Steve Smith, from there onwards it was not easy to just come in and rotate the strike for the new batter,” Ravindra Jadeja said.

“I would say that wicket was the turning point. From there onwards, they were 110/3 and 199 all out,” he added.

Speaking further, the India star also opened up on his bowling plans and said that he was not looking to experiment much as the pitch was providing enough assistance to the bowlers.

“This was my plan, that I should bowl at the stumps and luckily the ball to Smith turned a little more,” Jadeja said.

“My plan was simple. I was thinking that this is a Test match bowling wicket, I shouldn’t experiment too much because everything was happening in the wicket. So I was trying to bowl it stump to stump,” he added.

India will be in action next on Wednesday (October 11). The Men in Blue will lock horns against Afghanistan in Delhi in their next game.
