Pat Cummins vs Bangladesh (PC: X)
A clinical performance from their bowlers helped Australia to usurp Bangladesh in a Super 8 game in Antigua by 28 runs via the DLS method. At 100 for 2, Australia were cruising towards overhauling the modest target of 141, when heavens opened up again and the umpires decided that no further play was possible. At that juncture, Australia were ahead of Bangladesh on the basis of DLS method and emerged triumphant.
The framework for Australia’s victory was laid by the bowlers. On a track that suited the tall Australian pacemen and the wrist spin of Adam Zampa, Bangladesh struggled to find a method to counter the opposition’s strength.
A couple of Bangladesh batters, still, put up a semblance of resistance. The talented Towhid Hridoy, batting at No. 5, played with a sense of purpose and finished with a 28-ball 40. Najmul Shanto, the skipper, compiled a 36-ball 41. Litton Das and Taskin Ahmed were the only other batters from Bangladesh to cross the double-digit mark.

Meanwhile, Pat Cummins bagged three wickets conceding 29 runs. All those three wickets were a part of the hat-trick that he took. With a mixture of slower back of a length deliveries and hard length, he removed Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan and Hridoy off the last two deliveries in the 18th over and the first ball off the 19th to unlock the achievement. He became only the seventh bowler to achieve that milestone in T20 World Cups.
Zampa, Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc were the other wicket-takers for Australia. David Warner and Travis Head then provided Australia with a perfect start, putting on 65 for the opening wicket. Although Rishad Hossain, the leg-spinner, did prise out both Mitchell Marsh and Head, Australia were always in pole position. Even a rain break or two couldn’t stop Australia from registering their first win of Super 8s in the tournament.
