The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a grand victory parade on Wednesday (July 4), in honor of Team India‘s historic T20 World Cup 2024 win against South Africa in Barbados. The parade is set to be a significant celebration, marking a memorable triumph for Indian cricket.
Arrival in New Delhi and reception
The Men in Blue, along with the support staff, their families, and media, were stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, a category four hurricane that shut down Grantley Adams International Airport for three days. Finally, the team departed for Delhi aboard a charter flight, Air India Champions 24 World Cup (AIC24WC), which took off around 4:50 AM local time and landed in New Delhi at approximately 7:00 AM IST on Wednesday. They were greeted by hundreds of enthusiastic fans at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, who held placards, waved the national flag, and braved a drizzle to welcome their heroes.
Breakfast with Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Following their arrival, the team waved to their supporters from inside the team bus en route to ITC Maurya Hotel. Later, they will attend a breakfast hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 11:00 AM. PM Modi had previously spoken to key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after the final, and now he will meet them in person to congratulate them for their historic and memorable victory.

Victory parade in Mumbai and celebration details
After the breakfast, Team India will head to Mumbai for a grand victory parade. The parade, reminiscent of MS Dhoni‘s 2007 ICC World T20-winning team’s celebration, will begin at 5:00 PM. The route will cover approximately 2 kilometers, starting at NCPA, Nariman Point, Marine Drive and ending at Wankhede Stadium. The open-top bus parade will allow fans to celebrate along the way.
Skipper Rohit and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced the parade on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Rohit invited fans to join the celebration, stating, “We want to enjoy this special moment with all of you. So let’s celebrate this win with a victory parade at Marine Drive and Wankhede on July 4 from 5 PM onwards. It’s coming home,”
