As the cricketing world gears up for the knockout stage of the much-anticipated ODI World Cup 2023, legendary cricketer Adam Gilchrist has entered the spotlight, offering invaluable insights on how Australia can conquer the formidable Indian side.
It is worth noting that the Men in Blue became the first team to qualify for the semi-final stage of the ongoing cricketing extravaganza by defeating Sri Lanka on November 2.
India’s unbeaten run in the ODI World Cup 2023
India’s performance in the ongoing ODI World Cup have taken the cricketing world by storm. The hosts currently stand at the top of the points table by winning all eight matches they have played. The Rohit Sharma-led side have put on a remarkable cricketing display throughout their encounters, performing exceptionally well in all facets of the game.
Adam Gilchrist’ cognizance on stopping Team India
Speaking to Fox Cricket, Gilchrist suggested that in order to increase the chances of beating India, the Aussies should opt to bat first after winning the toss. While acknowledging the Indian prowess in chasing, especially with Virat Kohli at the helm, the former wicket-keeper batter still emphasized the strategic advantage of setting a target for the Indian side to chase.
“I think firstly winning the toss and batting first, given how India have gone about their business. I don’t suggest that they have a weakness in chasing. They have the greatest-ever run-chase co-ordinator in Virat Kohli,” said Gilchrist.

Adam Gilchrist’s opinion on the Indian bowling attack
Gilchrist further highlighted the effectiveness of the Indian bowling attack, particularly under lights, considering the stellar performances of Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
The Bellingen-born cricketer opined that facing the trio in daylight conditions might be more favourable for batters, indicating a potential strategy for teams aiming to counter India’s formidable bowling unit in the ODI World Cup 2023.
“But the damage that the Indian bowling attack has been doing under lights, they have been lethal. Siraj, Shami, and Bumrah have been almost unplayable. It might be more conducive to bat against them in daylight,” the 51-year-old added.
