India National Cricket Team batting sensation Shubman Gill has provided a colossal update on the injury he suffered during the recently concluded second Test match of the five-match series against Ben Stokes-led England National Cricket Team at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
Gill was going through a lean patch, especially in the red-ball format, for an extended period of time. Reportedly, he was given an ultimatum by the team management to deliver a noteworthy performance in the second Test against England otherwise there were chances of him getting dropped from the side.
The 24-year-old took the words of the team management very seriously and performed really well in India’s second innings of the second match. Gill looked settled in the middle during the innings and he was also comfortable while facing left-arm spin.
He paced his innings perfectly and smashed a remarkable ton. Shubman Gill looked set for a big ton, but that didn’t happen as he threw away his wicket while playing a poor shot off Shoaib Bashir’s delivery.
He finished his innings with a score of 104 runs off 147 balls, with 11 fours and 2 sixes, and helped India give a humongous target of 399 runs for the English team.
Shubman Gill didn’t take the field on Monday and he was substituted by Sarfaraz Khan. The BCCI informed about this stating, “Shubman Gill hurt his right index finger while fielding on Day 2. He won’t be taking the field today.”
I had to go for the scans yesterday, so they rushed me off – Shubman Gill
Speaking after the end of the Vizag Test, Shubman Gill revealed that he underwent scans to know about the extent of the injury and found out that nothing was serious. He added that he would be fine enough to take part in the remainder of the series, which is a piece of good news for Indian cricket.
“I had to go for the scans yesterday, so they rushed me off (to know) like how sore is my finger in the evening… to check that and to know how am I feeling,” Gill told the host broadcaster after India’s win, adding that he would be fine.
India National Cricket Team head coach Rahul Dravid also spoke about Shubman Gill and stated that the youngster entered the second Test with a lot of pressure and delivered when it was needed.
“He came into the Test match under pressure externally, internally we have a lot of confidence in Shubman. We know his class and his ability, We’ve seen it. We’ve seen how good a player he’s been.
“Even in this lean run. He’s actually the one who’s got us 100 at Chittagong. He got 100 in Ahmedabad. So we know that quality. But of course, I mean, as a young player from whom a lot is expected, I think obviously he did feel the pressure. So really happy with the way he played that image.”
Talking about the second Test match between India and England, the Rohit Sharma-led side hammered the Ben Stokes & Co. by 106 runs to level the series 1-1. Jasprit Bumrah was awarded Player of the Match for his stupendous performance in the Vizag Test.
