England legend Nasser Hussain predicts the winner of T20 World Cup 2024

Cricket fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in the West Indies and USA from June onwards. With an unprecedented 20 teams participating, the tournament promises to be a global spectacle.

Tournament format and stakes

The participating teams will initially compete in five groups, each comprising four teams. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 stage, where a fierce battle will unfold. Only the top eight teams will progress to this round-robin format, setting the stage for intense competition.

Nasser Hussain’s bold prediction

As the cricketing world gears up for the T20 World Cup, former England legend Nasser Hussain has shared his insights on the potential winners. Hussain, recognizing England’s current form and the influence of captain Jos Buttler, believes the team has the potential to secure back-to-back titles. However, he pointed out that England is not playing particularly well at the moment.

Despite acknowledging the competitive nature of teams like the West Indies and Pakistan, Hussain boldly predicted South Africa to clinch the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy.

“I have not thought too much about this actually…but I am going to go with South Africa. England are (reigning) champions, but not playing particularly well at the moment. It is in the Caribbean and the West Indies are going OK, then you have Pakistan, so can I choose all of these sides?. I am going to go for South Africa versus England in the final,” said Nasser as quoted by ICC.

Nasser explains reason behind his pick

Highlighting the return of pace duo Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala, Hussain sees them as potential game-changers for South Africa. He expressed optimism about the depth, class, and talent within the Proteas squad, citing the impact of their players’ development in the SA20 competition. He also emphasized the importance of Nortje’s fitness for the T20 World Cup and praised South Africa’s dynamic batting lineup.

“I think their (domestic) SA20 competition has really elevated some of their players and they have now got that depth and that class and that talent. I do not know where he is with his injury at the moment, but someone like Anrich Nortje is what they were missing maybe in those vital games, towards the end of the World Cup. So, I think maybe if Nortje can get fit for the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and with their dynamic batting line-up, I am going to look for South Africa,” added Nasser.
