Australian batter David Warner has been announced as the captain of the Dubai Capitals for the upcoming edition of the International League T20. The franchise on Sunday (31st December) made the official announcement.
David Warner recently signed a two-year deal with Dubai Capitals and now will be captaining the team in the tournament. The second edition of the ILT20 will be played from January 20 to February 18.
David Warner will be missing the white-ball series for Australia to take part in the league because of his contract. Handing leadership to the southpaw will be one of the biggest moves for the team as he apart from his batting, has been excellent as a leader.
David Warner captained Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and also under him the team won the title in 2016. He did a great job as the leader of the team and also led from the front, making the team a dominant force in the IPL. He’s the leading run-getter in the league amongst the overseas batters. The Australian opener recently became part of the Delhi Capitals in IPL as he was acquired in 2022.
David Warner also captained the team in 2023 in the absence of Rishabh Pant but he didn’t have a great outing as a leader as under him teams were eliminated early from the tournament. However, as a batter, he was right on the money as he played a few staggering knocks.
Dubai Capitals in the last edition of the league reached the Eliminator of the tournament. However, under David Warner, they would be hoping to go two steps ahead and win the title. The Australian batter would be entering the league with the baggage of expectations.

David Warner has represented Delhi Capitals in 80 matches and has scored 2362 runs for the team and also has smashed 2 centuries and 21 half-centuries. Overall in IPL, he has scored 6397 runs from 176 games at a strike rate of around 140. He has 4 tons and 61 half-centuries as well.
David Warner to retire from Test cricket after last Test against Pakistan
David Warner is currently part of the Australian team for the ongoing Test series against Pakistan. The batter is all set to retire from the longest format of the game after the last Test of the series. The match will be played at his home ground at SCG from 3rd January. The hosts have already won the series 2-0 and now would be hoping to whitewash the opposition and give a fairytale ending to the opening batter.
David Warner has been terrific in the ongoing series. He opened his account in the series with a magnificent century. The batter has so far scored 208 runs in two games. With him slated to play in whites for the last time, he would be hoping to end the career on high and play a big knock. He has been an incredible servant for Australia and it’s fair to say once he leaves, finding a player of his calibre would be tough for the team.
