Sohail Tanvir Named Head Of Pakistan’s Junior Selection Committee

On Friday, November 17, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the appointment of the former Pakistan player Sohail Tanvir as the head of the junior selection committee.

The 38-year-old represented Pakistan National Cricket Team from 2007 to 2017 and he was part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad in the year 2009. Overall, he represented the Men In Green in 2 Tests, 62 ODIs and 57 T20Is, picking up 130 wickets.

The appointment of Sohail Tanvir is part of the wholesale changes in Pakistan cricket following their early World Cup 2023 exit. Babar Azam has stepped down as all-format captain and has been replaced by Shaheen Afridi in T20Is and Shan Masood in Tests.

The entire coaching staff has been sacked and Pakistan director of cricket Mickey Arthur has been replaced by Mohammad Hafeez, who will serve as the team’s head coach in a temporary capacity for the tours of Australia and New Zealand.

Also, Wahab Riaz has been appointed the new chief selector of the senior men’s team, replacing the legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq, who stepped down from the position in the middle of the World Cup 2023.

“I am truly honored and grateful for the opportunity provided by Chairman PCB” – Sohail Tanvir

In an official statement issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Sohail Tanvir said that he is truly honored to get the opportunity to become the head of the junior selection committee. He elaborated:

“I am truly honoured and grateful for the opportunity provided by the Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr Zaka Ashraf to serve as head of the junior selection committee. Being appointed chairman of this committee is a huge responsibility and I am looking forward to this exciting challenge.

“I believe in the potential of our young talent and we collaboratively aim to build a pathway for success from the grassroots to the international level. Our first task will be the selection of the U19 squad for the upcoming ACC U19 Asia Cup, as we prepare to build a strong team to compete in the ICC U19 World Cup later next year.”
